The Future of Sustainable Development Financing
14.Apr..2022 08:30 AM in Eastern Time (USA und Kanada)
Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, its effects have exposed and exacerbated global inequalities and set back hard-earned development progress. While most developed countries implemented aggressive fiscal and monetary policies to avoid full-fledged financial crises, most developing countries lacked the resources to implement such large-scale responses. It is critical that the global community work together to avoid the catastrophic situation in which one group of countries recovers, and another sinks deeper into a cycle of poverty and unsustainable debt.
To support these efforts, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) will host on 14 April 2022, from 8:30-10 a.m. EDT, a Global Policy Dialogue on “The Future of Sustainable Development Financing,” looking at how to overcome the great financing divide that currently exacerbates the divergence in development prospects and threatens to undermine achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Experts from around the world will explore how to create reliable access to affordable financing as well as how to improve the international system for resolving situations of unsustainable sovereign debt.
The event also will introduce a new report, the 2022 Financing for Sustainable Development Report, prepared by the Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development, which has been coordinated by the Financing for Sustainable Development Office of UN DESA. Additional sessions in this “Future of the World” policy dialogues this year will examine issues including ageing, international migration, and progress on the SDGs.
These dialogues are made possible by the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund. Translation will be available in American Sign Language. Captions will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. All are welcome!
