The Centre’s mission is to carry out high-quality research into ethics and technology. For further information please see www.ethicsandtechnology.eu.

The Philosophy section has a vacancy for a male or female Post-doc for the Conceptual and moral analysis of responsibility project.

Project and job description
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) project Moral responsibility in R&D networks has a sectional project, Conceptual and moral analysis of responsibility. In technical research networks it is often unclear who is morally responsible for preventing negative social effects. Within the NWO project a notion of moral responsibility and an approach are developed to assist in preventing gaps in the allocation of responsibility. Central to the Post-doc project is the conceptual and moral analysis of the responsibility concept, with an eye to developing a notion of responsibility which is morally justifiable and which leads to a complete distribution of responsibility in technical research networks. A complete description of the project can be requested, or is available on the website www.ethicsandtechnology.eu.

The successful candidate will work with the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management in the Philosophy section. He or she will be responsible for carrying out research and producing the relevant publications. Within the NWO moral responsibility in R&D networks project, there will be close cooperation with another Post-doc and a PhD student to be recruited.

Requirements
Applicants must have graduated in philosophy. They must have a demonstrable interest in applied ethics and technology. It is also recommended that candidates have had experience in carrying out research in philosophy of technology, applied ethics or philosophy of mind. It must be obvious from earlier publications that candidates possess good analytical and philosophical skills. Finally we are seeking a Post-doc who would like to work in a team. Delft University of Technology is a bilingual organisation; good command of both written and spoken English is a prerequisite.
